Research of my choice

 Research Post: Thriller Genre

For my research post, I looked into the thriller genre and also used The Hangover as inspiration. Even though The Hangover is mainly a comedy, it uses a storytelling technique that is similar to thrillers. The movie starts after everything has already happened, and the audience slowly finds out what happened earlier through flashbacks. This keeps you interested because you’re trying to piece together the story the whole time.

A lot of thrillers do this by not explaining everything right away. Instead, they build suspense by revealing information little by little. Music, lighting, and pacing help make normal situations feel intense and slightly stressful, which pulls the audience in.

This inspired our new idea. We highkey changed our concept and now want to do a story about a high schooler sneaking back into his house late at night after having the night of his life. Like The Hangover, the audience won’t immediately know what happened earlier that night, which creates mystery and tension. I think using this style will make our two-minute opening more engaging and make people want to keep watching.
