Research of my choice

 Research Post: Thriller Genre

For my research post, I looked into the thriller genre and also used The Hangover as inspiration. Even though The Hangover is mainly a comedy, it uses a storytelling technique that is similar to thrillers. The movie starts after everything has already happened, and the audience slowly finds out what happened earlier through flashbacks. This keeps you interested because you’re trying to piece together the story the whole time.

A lot of thrillers do this by not explaining everything right away. Instead, they build suspense by revealing information little by little. Music, lighting, and pacing help make normal situations feel intense and slightly stressful, which pulls the audience in.

This inspired our new idea. We highkey changed our concept and now want to do a story about a high schooler sneaking back into his house late at night after having the night of his life. Like The Hangover, the audience won’t immediately know what happened earlier that night, which creates mystery and tension. I think using this style will make our two-minute opening more engaging and make people want to keep watching.

3 film credits

For the three credit sequences I chose to research, I picked these films:

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – The opening credits are fun and playful, just like the movie itself. I liked how they used bright colors and quick shots of the main characters to set the tone. It made me realize that credit sequences aren’t just for showing names they can actually give the audience a vibe for the story.

People We Meet on Vacation – The credits in this one were simple but really effective. They used soft music and close-up shots that matched the romantic and lighthearted mood of the film. This kind of subtle approach is smart because it doesn’t distract from the story but still feels stylish.

Anyone But You – I really liked the credit sequence here. It combined playful animations with music that immediately gave off the energy of the movie. It reminded me that credits can be a way to start building the world of the story before the plot even begins.

Analyzing these credit sequences made me think more about how we can use our own credits creatively. Even though our opening is short, I want to make sure the credits feel like part of the story and give the audience a taste of the mood and characters.

3 Film opening research

For the three film openings I choose to research I choose The films: 1-How to lose a guy in 10 days(which already watched and I liked a lot.) 2- People we meet on vacation) 3- Anyone but You(I already watched it and I honestly really liked it).

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – I already watched this one and honestly, I really liked it. The opening does a great job of showing the main characters’ personalities and the kind of story we’re going to get, which is fun, romantic, and funny. It sets up the conflict right away without feeling forced, which is something I might want to try in our opening.

People We Meet on Vacation – I just watched this one, and it was really good! I liked it a lot. The opening immediately shows the main characters and their chemistry, and it makes you care about them right away. It’s romantic and funny but also feels real, which I think is super important for a two-minute opening. I want to try to capture that same vibe in our own project.

Anyone But You – I’ve already watched this one too, and I honestly really liked it. The opening immediately sets the tone and makes you want to see what happens next. It’s a good example of how to start a story that feels romantic and lighthearted but still has some tension, which is what we’re trying to do with our two minute opening.

Overall, analyzing these openings made me realize how important it is to grab the audience’s attention right away and make them invested in the characters. I think I can use some of these ideas in our own project.

Portfolio Project schedule

Okay so this is where I need to plan my time. Which is good because I usually don't and I just go with the flow but as I've learned throughout the year going with the flow is not efficient nor a good habit and I am try to build good habits that better benefit my future and my present and this will be a good help in that.

So this schedule must consist of the following things

-Research: Such as opening scene analysis and credits analysis and more

- Planning: Coming up with a Idea for the movie plot, Making the script, Story boards, choosing days for filming and choosing the location. MAKING A FIRE TITLE

-Actually making the film: Filming, making props, making foley

-Editing: Putting it all together, DONT FORGET THE CREDITS AND THE TTLE

-Going over it : Go over the film and make sure everything is good and if something need to be changed then change it. Making sure we are happy with everything and so is Stoklosa.

-CCR: Research info needed for the reflection, Make the reflection, and then edit and go over the CCR.

My partners and I have until spring break to finish this project I'm going on a trip to Cartagena so I absolutely do not want to finish this last minute. So I want to finish a week early so we don't have to worry about it.

Portfolio Project!!

Its Time!!!! For the big important final, its a very time consuming and engaging project. I was just gonna work with my friend Vale but Mario asked to join last minute and we gladly said yes! Vale and I already had the Romance genre already decided but Mario wasn't completely convinced with this genre, so we told him our ideas and he liked them. Okay so after talking to Miss Stoklosa I had a epiphany our ideas are more like a drama than a Romance but after some more thought it is a ROMANCE because its the opening to the story of their love, THEY END UP TOGETHER so it is a romance I think... No yes it is a romance. I told Stoklosa my favorite romance movie is 500 days of summer but that isn't a romance all she does is playing with his feelings and make him feel like shit so its a drama. But we are gonna try to make our story into a nice romance that's exciting and fun.

second genre research

The second genre for the two minute opening would be a musical. Yes I know a musical is kind of like hard to do and also like cringy but my partner and I think it would be a really fun experience making that type of production the only thing is like its gonna be really hard because we can only use non copy right music so we decided against it but we still wanted to research it.

Target audience:

-Teens and adults (around ages 12-40), Fans of music, dance, and performance, often people in theater, dance, or music.

Genre conventions:

- Characters express emotions and plot through songs, musical numbers are made into the story, themes often include love, dreams, identity, or conflict, Emotional highs and lows are shown during the movie, usually ends with a resolution or emotional conclusion.

Genre conventions:

-Choreographed dance routines, Non diegetic and diegetic music, long and mid shots to show full dance sequences, close ups  during emotional songs,

Institutional conventions:

-story progresses through musical performances and dialogue, Bright colors and expressive costumes, marketing: trailers focus on songs and dances.

Often times produced by large studious or adapted by Broadway shows.

2 films examples: High school musical and La La land.

Portfolio Project Genre #1

Hello Cambridge superiors. I am officially super stressed because of this project. I'm nervous but super excited as well and scared I cant forget about scared. I'm going to be working on this project with my friend vale. We are in between a couple genres but the main one we want to do is like a romance movie.

I researched the genre and I got lots of good tips and tricks to make it work for my project as well as lots of cool ideas I want to implement into the 2 minute opening. I took lots of time on this research and I summarized it into small important pieces.

Final reflection

Dear big year old Cambridge people and Ms. Stoklosa,  I am sad but also happy to say that the end of the 25–26 school year is coming to an ...
